We get a lot of questions about firewood, but there’s one question no one ever seems to ask: when is the best time to order firewood?
Our tagline probably doesn’t help — “Seasoned and Kiln Dried Firewood Always in Stock!” — it’s easy to assume timing doesn’t matter. While the quality of our firewood and service stays consistent year-round, delivery timing and scheduling flexibility can vary depending on when you order.
We wanted to share how the timing of your firewood order can affect your overall experience.
65% of our annual firewood orders are received in Fall and Winter. When that many orders are received during the same window, delivery schedules fill quickly and flexibility becomes limited.
When is the best time to order firewood?
Spring and Summer are the best times to order firewood.
During these months, demand is lower, scheduling is more flexible, and we typically have the widest selection available. Ordering early helps ensure you’re prepared ahead of winter storms or power outages and allows you to stack and store your firewood in more comfortable conditions instead of snow, wind, and freezing temperatures. Planning ahead also helps avoid seasonal delivery delays or the need to add Rush Delivery.
Is it too early to order firewood?
Not at all. By the end of the heating season, most customers have a good sense of how much wood they use, making it easier to plan ahead for the next year. Ordering at that point helps you avoid peak-season demand and provides more scheduling flexibility.
Does ordering early affect firewood quality?
If anything, it helps.
Properly seasoned and kiln-dried firewood stores very well when stacked off the ground with good airflow. Over time, it continues to dry, meaning it will burn hotter and cleaner when fall arrives.
